Summer is the season of bold skies, bright blooms, and sun-soaked adventures—and your quilting color choices can reflect all of that warmth and joy! Whether you’re planning your next picnic quilt or stitching something breezy to enjoy in the AC, the right color palette can instantly evoke the spirit of summer.

Today, I’m sharing some of my favorite summer color palettes for quilting. From soft beachy tones to juicy tropical brights, these combos are made to inspire! Grab your favorite fabrics (or maybe an excuse to visit the quilt shop), and let’s dive in.

Summer Palette Inspiration

☀️ 1. Sunny & Citrus

Lemon yellow • Tangerine • Soft coral • lime • Aqua

This palette is like a cold glass of lemonade on a hot day! Think beach towels, poolside popsicles, and vintage summer vibes. Pair bright warm tones with a splash of cool aqua for balance. Perfect for cheerful picnic quilts.

Bonus tip: Use white or low-volume prints to give your brights room to breathe.

🌊 2. Ocean Breeze

Seafoam • Deep navy • Sandy beige • Sky blue • Cool grey

Inspired by waves, seashells, and shoreline sunsets, this calming palette brings instant serenity. Soft, tonal fabrics work beautifully here, especially in curvy or flowing quilt designs. This palette is what I dream quilts at the Hamptons are like.

Bonus tip: Use texture (like wovens or linen blends) to add to the sensory experience the sea brings.

🌺 3. Tropical Bloom

Magenta • Turquoise • Lime green • Sunshine yellow • Orchid purple

Go bold or go home! This punchy palette is made for summer. Use saturated solids or modern prints to create something with high visual energy—perfect for outdoor gatherings or fun kids’ quilts.

Bonus tip: A great way to nod to the tropical vibe is by using black or deep tones. This will really make those bright jewel tones pop!

🌞 4. French Lavender Fields at Sunset

Deep violet • Soft lavender • Blush coral • Warm peach • Rich plum

This palette says “warm French evening on the veranda.” It’s classic, inviting, and charming—especially when paired with small florals, and ombres. I love using this combo for bringing a European summer feel to quilts.

Bonus tip: Blend your fabrics from light to dark for a glowing, sunset effect.

Sizzling stitches! This hotdog-themed quilt, inspired by classic 4th of July fair vibes, brings the flavor of summer feasts to cozy comfort.

🍓 4. Strawberry Picnic

Strawberry red • Blush pink • Grass green • Cream • Gingham-inspired checks

This palette says “pass the pie!” It’s vintage, sweet, and charming—especially when paired with small florals, ginghams, and checks. I love using this combo for nostalgic or farmhouse-style quilts.

Bonus tip: Add hand quilting in perle cotton for extra texture and charm.
